North Shore Bloggers Consortium: Picks of the Weekend

Newburyport, Amesbury, Stoneham, and Lowell:  Everyone’s got something going on this weekend!  Take a look:

Newburyport’s Holiday Invitation Night

This weekend and next, Newburyport’s Chamber of Commerce invites you to come check out the city’s shops and holiday activities.  Enjoy merchant hospitality, live, entertainment, and the spirit of the holidays.  Do some shopping, grab a bite to eat, and make it a great night out.  Here’s a sampling of this weekend’s events:

At The Book Rack

On Friday, December 3, join us for Newburyport Invitation Night from 6 – 9 pm.  Enjoy holiday music and refreshments as you make your way through our picturesque downtown shops. We will be serving refreshments and treats while you shop for the perfect gifts at The Book Rack, a festive annual event that helps local businesses.  The Book Rack is located at 52 State Street, Newburyport.  www.hugobookstores.com

At the Old South Church

On Friday from 7 – 9 pm, join us for our Annual Christmas Carol Sing Along! This is a free, family event and is a great evening to spend with family and friends in historic Old South Church. Refreshments will follow.  The Old South Church is located at 29 Federal Street, Newburyport. www.oldsouthnbpt.org

At the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and Industry

On Saturdays and Sundays, December 4 – 19 from 11 am – 2 pm, bring the kids to the Chamber on Inn Street where they can meet Santa, share their wish list, and have their picture taken with Mr. Claus.   www.newburyportchamber.org

At the Cushing House Museum

On Saturday December 4 and Monday, December 6 from noon – 4 pm, visit the Cushing House Museum, beautifully decorated for the season by area garden clubs.  The Cushing House Museum is located at 98 High Street, Newburyport.  www.newburyhist.org

Amesbury’s Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony

On Saturday, December 4, Amesbury’s Annual Holiday Parade begins downtown and ends at Market Square where Mayor Kezer will light the Christmas tree.  The parade starts at 3:30 pm.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

A huge shout out to my hometown of Stoneham and its highly regarded little theatre.  From November 26 and running through December 23, see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  The play is “a family-friendly romp about a small-town Christmas Pageant that gets hijacked by the roughest, loudest, rowdiest kids in town. And just when the Pageant seems beyond all repair, the true spirit of Christmas is discovered in the most unexpected of ways.”  For tickets, contact the Box Office at 781-279-2200, or visit www.stonehamtheatre.org.  Stoneham Theatre is located at 395 Main Street.

Beasley’s Christmas Party

Another regional theatre getting rave reviews is Lowell’s Merrimack Repertory Theatre.  Its latest production, Beasley’s Christmas Party, runs from November 26 through December 19, and tells the “story of a curious journalist and his extremely eccentric next door neighbor who is planning a most unusual Christmas party. Magically and imaginatively delivered, it is a distinctly American and spiritually uplifting holiday story for the whole family filled with humor, heart and hope.”  For tickets, contact the Box Office at 978-654-4678, or visit www.merrimackrep.org.  The theatre is located at 50 East Merrimack Street, Lowell.
